Second Round Interview with Robert MacIntyre

Q. What was working so well for you today?

ROBERT MACINTYRE: Yeah, everything. I mean, I've been driving the ball nice. Got a new Titleist driver in the bag. Iron play today was exceptional I would say. Hit a pure wedge shot on 17, I thought it was absolutely dynamite there. Approach play, hitting the number, hitting the targets. Got to finish off with good putting. Overall, just really solid.

Q. At what point in your round did you feel like today was maybe your day after inching closer to the top of the leaderboard?

ROBERT MACINTYRE: Look, I just, from the start I mean, I know I played nicely. I got off to a nice start, starting on that back nine was nice. If you play well, you can build momentum. Yeah, it was a good start and a good finish.

Q. And then the group that you were in with Åberg over there, were you guys feeding off of each other's energy?

ROBERT MACINTYRE: Yeah. We're good friends obviously from the Ryder Cup and stuff. We get on really well. It's good to play with good players and you can kind of build in a round. It was good to see him play well, and obviously myself.

Q. And what are you enjoying about San Antonio and the VTO as a whole?

ROBERT MACINTYRE: Yeah, I enjoy coming here. This is my second time, I came here I think maybe in 2021. But no, I enjoy the place. I enjoy obviously the weather, just now it's not too hot. Yeah, enjoy the kind of ‑‑ it's a nice environment, nice people. Yeah, so far, so good.

Q. Does it feel a little bit like a DP World Tour event the way everybody kind of stays in the same place?

ROBERT MACINTYRE: It does. A lot of people in the hotel. You're passing everyone. You go out for dinner and stuff with my caddie and my coach. It does somewhat feel a little bit different this week. Everyone's not in houses and you're not meeting everyone when you get to the golf course. Yeah, I think I enjoy the weather, that little bit of breeze.

Q. Is this a golf course that's made for lefties? The last two winners have both been lefties.

ROBERT MACINTYRE: I don't know. Obviously people left handed have done well in the past, but I'm not worried about that one bit. I just, whatever, warming up in the morning and getting after it.

Q. You had an eagle on 14. Can you take us through what you saw on that hole?

ROBERT MACINTYRE: Yeah. Driver a little bit left into the safe zone and ended up a good number to rescue it. Shouldn't have been able to pitch on the green and I flushed it and it pitched literally a foot short of the green and then it just killed it and ran to 10 feet, then managed to hole it.

Q. You mentioned having a new driver in the bag. What did you switch to and how impactful has that been?

ROBERT MACINTYRE: Yeah, I put the new Titleist TRS in the bag. It's very similar to my old driver but just newer model, technology I suppose. Yeah, spin's been very good, been able to shape it. To me a big thing's to be able to shape the golf ball especially when it's windy. Two rounds in with it, so far, so good.

Q. Do you always like to play your way into a major?

ROBERT MACINTYRE: I've tweaked it this year. I didn't play last year, just went straight into Augusta. This was an adjustment for that reason. I wanted to be sharp, or sharper going into Augusta. Yeah, to answer that question, yes, I prefer playing my way in whether it's one, two, sometimes three events before a major.
