The beautiful weather set the scene for over 880 runners and walkers that participated in the 3rd annual Dash to the VTO presented by Humana Military on Saturday, March 30. The event included a 5K and 1-mile race around the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio.
The race provided a fun way to get a sneak peek at the golf course and tournament setup prior to the start of PGA TOUR competition. Each race entry included one (1) Good-Any-One-Day grounds ticket to the Valero Texas Open, a chipped bib, and race shirt. After the chipped race, participants enjoyed festivities including the awards presentation and post-race party comprised of delicious food samplings, drinks and fun interactive activities by nearly 25 community partners.
Proceeds from the event went to support the Valero Texas Open’s Birdies for Charity program. In addition, the three charities with the greatest number of race participants received a bonus charitable contribution.
- First Place - $3,000 – Buffalos FC
- Second Place - $1,500 – Easter Seals
- Third Place - 500 – San Antonio Council on Alcohol & Drug Awareness
- Children’s Golf Clinic sponsored by The Kolitz Family Foundation
- After school on Tuesday, April 2 over 120 children attended a golf clinic at The First Tee of Greater San Antonio and each received a Valero Texas Open swag bag full of fun VTO goodies.Special appearances by PGA TOUR professionals, Cody Gribble, Brandon Hagy, Jim Herman and Kyle Jones made it extra special. The activities concluded with interactive golf instruction led by volunteers from The First Tee of Greater San Antonio, allowing each child the opportunity to hit golf balls and experience golf first-hand.

The 7th annual Valero Texas Open Women’s Day provided San Antonio-area women the opportunity to create social and business relationships through an exclusive and advanced forum of more than 240 women. The day-long event on Tuesday, April 2 embraced the theme of “What Brings Us Together: Food, Friendship, & Fun.”Insights and anecdotes were shared by keynote speaker, Tanji Patton, Emmy award winning journalist and Host/Executive Producer of the television series, “Good Taste with Tanji”. Tanji shared her passion for food and wines as she led guests through an interactive lunch filled with wine pairings for each course.Attendees also enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the Valero Texas Open in the afternoon. The ever-popular Networking Mixer concluded the program with appetizers and sweet delights prepared by high school students from the culinary program at Lanier HS which was paired with Dripping Springs beverages, and a trunk show from Kendra Scott and Jon Hart.Proceeds from Women’s Day supported the Culinary Program at Lanier High School led by Chef Jenny Placette.

With over 1,580 guests comprised of active and veteran military representing all ranks and branches, wounded veterans, and corporate partners, the tenth annual Night to Honor Our Heroes presented by Wells Fargo filled the JW Marriott’s Grand Oaks Ballroom to capacity on Friday, April 5.In celebration of the gala’s tenth anniversary, special guest George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States gave moving testimony about his tenure as our President and life following his duties and leadership at The White House.The evening’s host and lead anchor for NBC Sports, Dan Hicks led an insightful conversation with George W. Bush following his remarks; sharing stories of his experiences that moved guests in attendance and left with a heightened sense of patriotism.Others participating in the program included:

- National Anthem performed by SrA Michelle Rajotte, USAF
- Drill team presentation by John Jay High School Air Force JROTC

This year’s Valero Texas Open Pro-Ams once again delivered a first-class hospitality experience that was enjoyed by all who participated.

The Bay Ltd. Pro-Am was a great way to kick-off the Valero Texas Open tournament week. Featuring teams of four amateurs and one PGA TOUR professional, this casual but competitive golf outing set the tone for the fun-filled week ahead and allowed its participants to be some of the first to experience the AT&T Oaks Course in tournament conditions. Teams enjoyed their round of golf followed by additional time with their professionals at the awards luncheon. The Bay Ltd. Pro-Am was preceded by a wonderful Pairings Party the evening prior and concluded with Awards.Wednesday, April 3, 2019
The Zachry Pro-Am provided participants a first-class experience from start to finish. The Draw Party, which was hosted by Golf Channel anchor Steve Sands and NBC Sports’ Chantel McCabe, brought together all Pro-Am teams and paired them with a local charity organization through the Birdies for Charity program. Each charity would then be rewarded with a charitable bonus based on the performance of their Pro-Am team – giving the professionals and amateurs alike a little more incentive to play their best! Teams then participated in a dynamic random draft for their professionals.
The Zachry Pro-Am competition day was dealt beautiful south Texas weather; allowing participants to maximize their on-course experience with the top professionals in the Valero Texas Open field while playing the challenging AT&T Oaks Course. Off the course, participants enjoyed a mouth-watering breakfast and lunch along with afternoon snacks and cocktails – all being served in the incredible Valero hospitality venue on the 18th green. The Stronghold Military Heroes Pro-Am is one of the Valero Texas Open’s truly unique events. Each Pro-Am team included three amateurs paired with a PGA TOUR professional and a military hero (active service or wounded veteran). Prior to the shotgun start, Saturday morning began with a Presentation of Colors and the National Anthem sung by 4th Reconnaissance Battalion (USMCR).
In addition to playing in the pro-am, each threesome also attended the annual A Night to Honor Our Heroes military appreciation gala presented by Wells Fargo the night preceding and were treated to an Awards Luncheon following the round.
- 19th Hole Fiesta
- After the last putt dropped on Saturday, April 6, the music cranked up in the The Backyard and began drawing spectators to the 19th Hole Fiesta. This official Fiesta® event included backyard games, great food, delicious drinks and energetic live performances by three native Texas country music artists: Kimberly Dunn, Luke Pell and headliner Granger Smith. The live music provided guests a fun atmosphere to enjoy well into the evening.
