 Admissions/Will Call

As spectators and fans arrive to the Valero Texas Open, you provide one of the first interactions with guests, greeting everyone with good ‘ole southern Texas hospitality is only going to jumpstart these spectators’ experience with your help! The Admissions committee is responsible for ensuring that all guests are admitted onto the tournament grounds with the correct credentials. You’re the tour guide for the Valero Texas Open by joining this exclusive team.

 Ambassadors

Having enthusiastic and friendly volunteers that bring the Sothern Hospitality to life are essential for our Ambassadors. Volunteers will be stationed at the main spectator and exclusive VIP entrance areas, as well as various locations strategically placed around the golf course. You’ll be responsible for interacting with spectators by answering their questions and even helping them locate players/hole locations. You are an ambassador of the Valero Texas Open and help provide a voice within the tournament and is essential for the Valero Texas Open to run smoothly.

 Broadcast Services

The Broadcast committee works directly with NBC/Golf Channel Broadcasts as on-the-course spotters, scorers, and even get to announce tee-shots. Getting up close and personal with all the PGA TOUR players and inside the rope access to the exclusive TPC San Antonio is just one small perk with being a part of the Broadcast Committee. Who wouldn’t want to watch and broadcast golf all four days of the tournament?

 Caddie Services

As a part of the Caddie Services committee, you'll serve as a liaison between tournament and professional caddies. Inside the Caddie Tent you’ll be the initial volunteer helping caddies register, while also, collecting and issuing caddie bibs with nameplates and providing them a place to relax and recharge throughout tournament week.

 Evacuation

Drives made by PGA TOUR players are exciting to watch. But driving PGA TOUR pros off the course during inclement weather is essential. Join the Evacuation committee and you’ll be able to transport PGA TOUR players and caddies to and from the course in the event of a suspension of play or other circumstances requiring the departure from the course. You must be 25 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and must attend the evacuation routes training session the week before the tournament. The days needed for this position include; the weekend prior to the tournament (pick up vehicles and deliver to the course), Mon-Sun of tournament week, return vehicles Sunday after play or Monday morning after the tournament.

 Exhibitor Services

Who doesn’t love getting swag items from attending events. As part of the Exhibitor Services committee, you’ll work with numerous sponsoring companies in the exciting Main Entrance and The Backyard areas with loading in and out of the expo spaces. Patrolling this area by keeping it clean and organized throughout tournament week is crucial and helping exhibitor give out swag items, tournament “party favors” and help local businesses flourish during tournament week and beyond.

 Gallery Control

The Gallery Control committee are the marshals and extension of security guards for all of the PGA TOUR Players and Caddies at the Valero Texas Open. You’ll ensure fair play throughout the tournament and help manage crowd control inside and outside the ropes. Golf knowledge is helpful for this up-close view to all players and caddies. Gallery Control volunteers are required to sign up for shifts Wednesday through Sunday of tournament week. It could be hectic with large crowds, but you’ll be receiving a great experience inside the ropes at a PGA TOUR tournament.

 Hospitality

Help us share some good ‘ol Texas hospitality with our sponsors, VIPs and spectators in some of the premier viewing areas around TPC San Antonio. Provide a friendly, welcoming experience for guests as they arrive to the tournament – greeting them at the entrances of our hospitality venues throughout the course, checking for proper credentials, scanning their tickets and wristbanding them. Once guests are inside the venue, committee members help folks have an enjoyable time – helping them find a seat, navigating them to the bar and food service areas and even pointing them to the restrooms when necessary. Of course, we always want to remind our guests to be mindful of the competition taking place and politely quiet the crowds when noise levels escalate. As the saying goes, you’ll be the hostess with the mostess.

 Media Services

The Media Services committee helps to ensure that local and national media have the support needed to produce the groundbreaking stories about the tournament. Another aspect includes monitoring media personnel to make sure they have a proper working environment and provide gracious Texas hospitality to enhance the experience of all media at the Valero Texas Open. Having previous experience working in the Media areas at other PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS or Web.com Tour events is attractive for this committee.

 Military Affairs

Do you want to honor those who have served through the military? Here’s your chance to help the Wounded Warrior Foundation by providing transportation for them during the tournament. Also, the Military Affairs committee gets to assist and plan the banquet of Night to Honor Our Heroes and other military-related events for the Valero Texas Open. This committee is by invitation only.

 Off-Site Transportation

The Off-Site Transportation committee provides transportation for all the professional players and their families. This comes with the small benefit of getting personable with players and caddies participating in the Valero Texas Open, which some would say, is a once in a lifetime experience. However, this committee requires some driving in congested areas and knowledge of San Antonio’s city roads. We ask for volunteers to be at least 25 years of age, have a valid driver’s license. and proof of insurance. Another requirement is to provide your driver’s license and proof of insurance to the tournament office beforehand.

 Operations - Rapid Response

Do you enjoy working with tools? Do you feel gratification in building things with your hands? The Operations – Rapid Response committee will assist with various set-up plans onsite at TPC San Antonio and inside the operations compound. You can help place fencing for crowd control and light construction work as needed. This committee requires walking, standing, heavy lifting, and familiarity with common hand tools. Join this committee to see the daily operational processes that goes into creating a top-scale PGA TOUR tournament. Help for this is only needed late March through late April.

 Parking

Assist setting up, keeping clean, and tearing down parking lots. As vehicles enter lots, assist in verifying parking passes, then directing the vehicles where to park according to the loading plan for each lot. The various lots will be designated for one, some or all of our various patrons including: vendors, volunteers, sponsors, and spectators.

 Player Services

Here’s your chance to assist with social activities, childcare, transportation, reservations, and special needs for PGA TOUR players and their families. Potentially gaining a strong connection with player’s families could be a transforming experience for the Player Services volunteers. Having strong interpersonal skills and that outgoing Southern Texas charm is needed along with being flexible during tournament week. Registration by invitation only.

 Practice Facility

The Practice Facility Committee is responsible for the set up/tear down of the practice facility and the day to day operations of the area that includes the driving range, putting green, chipping green and the surrounding spectator areas. As PGA TOUR professionals enter and exit the range, volunteers will be responsible for setting up nameplates that identify each player, providing the players golf balls and general assistance. Marshaling of the area and crowd control will be required as well as allowing properly credentialed people in the area. Knowledge of the players is helpful, but not necessary. This position works outside all day and volunteers must be comfortable with and prepared for all weather conditions. Volunteers are needed from Monday through Sunday and will be staffed from 6AM until 7:30PM each day.

 Pro Vehicles

Assist with staging of courtesy vehicles at the airport, private terminals, and golf course. Greet players and families arriving at airport, conduct quick administrative documentation, and assist with the loading of player/families luggage. Assist players with the return of the vehicle when departing. Work location – San Antonio airport. Driver license and proof of insurance required. Must be at least 25 years old and provide driver’s license and proof of insurance to tournament office. Some lifting and some late hours, setup starts the week before the tournament and returning of vehicles a day or so after the tournament ends.

 Pro-Am

Assist with set-up Pro-Am gift distribution, Pro-Am Registration, Pro-Am Pairings parties; and Pro-Am Tournaments. Must be able to stand for long periods of time with occasional moderate lifting.

 Pro/VIP Shuttles

Shuttle players, caddies and VIPs using multi-passenger golf carts. Must be at least 18 years of age with valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Must provide driver’s license and proof of insurance to tournament office. Previous experience driving a golf cart required.

 Refreshers

Supply various locations on and off course with food and beverage. Some heavy lifting and working in hot & humid conditions.

 ShotLink®

Have a knack for being laser-focused and appreciate attention to detail. Join this committee and assist the PGA TOUR’s ShotLink® operations team while using the latest in technology from fairway lasers to tablet computers. Your services will provide real-time data and scoring of every shot made by the pros which will be prominently featured on PGATOUR.com, the PGA TOUR App and on the national and international television broadcasts. You’ll be paired with a fellow ShotLink® committee member on select fairways or greens watching and tracking all the inside-the-ropes action. While the majority of this committee’s tasks may be done while seated, tablet operators will need to be mobile around the greens. Please note, there is MANDATORY TRAINING so you can familiarize yourself with the equipment and ensure 100% accuracy on scoring and statistical data for show time!

 Standard Bearers

This is considered a "physical" position, as you will walk and carry a sign for an entire round of golf (approximately 4.5 to 6.5 hours). Minimum age for a Standard Bearer is 16, along with knowledge of the game of golf, you must be able to walk 18 holes on the TPC San Antonio Oaks Course. Standard Bearers must volunteer to work a minimum of three rounds, at least two of those rounds must be on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Another area to assist and does not require walking the course is the SB Operations Volunteer. (Driving Cart, Building signs, etc.)

 Volunteer Services

Oversee all volunteer food presentation and distribution.  Keep the volunteer tent clean, organized and inviting.  Create and maintain a volunteer registration process.  Must be energetic and very friendly.  Help distribute volunteers’ badges and uniforms 3 to 4 weeks prior to tournament.  Standing for long periods of time and heavy lifting required.

 Walking Scorers

This committee will walk 18 holes inside the ropes with the professional golfers. Volunteers will carry a handheld smart phone with PGA Scoring software and input stroke, scoring and statistical information. Scorers will also have constant voice communication with PGA TOUR staff. Volunteers must have knowledge of golf. Training is mandatory, will attend walking scorer and laser training. Scorers will participate in one Laser shift. Wednesday is required for ALL walking scorer volunteers.
