Thank You | |
Last year in 2015, we were proud yet humbled to become only the fourth PGA TOUR event to eclipse the $100 Million milestone in funds raised for charity. As you probably saw and heard over the past couple of weeks, we outdid ourselves again in charitable giving.
Sunday afternoon during the final round, Lane Riggs, Executive Vice President, Refinery Operations and Engineering for Valero, and this year’s Tournament Chair, announced on NBC that this year’s Valero Texas Open raised $10.5 million for charity, bringing the grand total to $115.5 million in charitable giving.
None of this, however, would have been possible if it were not for the steadfast support of our corporate partners, volunteers, fans and spectators, and the greater San Antonio community. On behalf of the Valero Texas Open and Valero Energy Corporation, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation for your help in making the 2016 Valero Texas Open impactful for our community.
In the weeks and months ahead we’ll share some of the highlights of the 2016 tournament along with news and updates on the 2017 edition of the Valero Texas Open – so stay tuned for more exciting details and join the conversation by following us on Twitter and Instagram and liking us on Facebook.

Final Round Recap | |
Charley Hoffman made a 9-foot birdie putt on the final hole to win the Valero Texas Open on Sunday. Playing alongside Hoffman, Reed also birdied the par-5 18th for a 69. He missed birdie putts inside 8 feet on the par-3 16th and par-4 17th.
The 39-year-old Hoffman closed with a 3-under 69 at TPC San Antonio for a one-stroke victory over Patrick Reed. Hoffman finished at 12-under 276 and earned $1,116,000 for his fourth PGA TOUR victory.
"This was my hardest one," Hoffman said after a vigorous fist-pump and drill-team leg kick when the winning putt fell at 18. "Grabbing that lead and holding on to it -- it's tough to keep the pedal down and give yourself birdie opportunities and win golf tournaments."

Thank You Volunteers | |
Week in and week out it takes a significant volunteer effort to successfully conduct a PGA TOUR event. At the Valero Texas Open, we are privileged to have an elite group of passionate and dedicated individuals who give of their time, talent and energy to help achieve a common goal of raising as much money as possible for charity while providing a first-class experience to all those who attend the Valero Texas Open – PGA TOUR professionals and their families, sponsors, spectators, etc.
This year’s volunteer organization was 1,700 strong spread across 27 committees and volunteered a combined total of 45,000+ hours. They were there before the sun rose and after the last putt dropped. They came from San Antonio, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, as far north as Canada, and everywhere in between. Many even take a week’s worth of vacation time to pitch in at the Valero Texas Open.
For their effort and continued support, Valero Energy Corporation and the Valero Texas Open would like to thank all the men and women volunteers who make the tournament such a huge success, ultimately impacting the hundreds of charities that are touched by tournament proceeds.
It’s never too early to express your interest in volunteering for the Valero Texas Open; feel free to email Volunteers@ValeroTexasOpen.com for information on volunteering for the 2017 Valero Texas Open.
