 | Four Additional World Class Players Join Field | |
| |
Yesterday we announced that four of the world’s best players and Masters Tournament invitees, are currently in the field, scheduled for April 1-7 at the TPC San Antonio Oaks Course.
J.B. Holmes, recent winner of the Genesis Open and currently ranked 43rd in the world, joins World No. 40 and two-time PGA TOUR winner Kyle Stanley, giving the tournament nine of the top 50 in the current world rankings.
European Tour members Lucas Bjerregaard and Haotong Li have accepted sponsor exemptions to make their San Antonio debuts. Bjerregaard, from Denmark, is ranked 50 and Li, a 23-year-old Chinese star, is ranked 35th in the world and became the first Chinese player to crack the top 50 when he did so after finishing third at the 2017 Open Championship. Both are recent winners on the European Tour.
All four players have received invitations to play in the Masters Tournament the week following the Valero Texas Open. A year ago, Li, playing in his first Masters Tournament, was among the leaders after the first round before finishing tied for 32nd.
Earlier, we announced player commitments from 2015 Masters Tournament champion Jordan Spieth, ranked 24th, as well as World No.7 Rickie Fowler, 13th ranked Tony Finau, 22nd ranked Matt Kuchar and 39th ranked Billy Horschel.
Along with recent Valero Texas Open champions - Jimmy Walker, Charley Hoffman and Andrew Landry – this announcement gives us 12 players currently invited to the Masters Tournament the following week.
Players have until Friday, March 29 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time to commit to the Valero Texas Open. They can withdraw from the tournament at any time.
