 | U.S. Open Underway | |
| |
The 121st U.S. Open returns to Torrey Pines South this week, with Rd. 1 presently underway.
The golf course, which Rees Jones renovated again in 2019, has also hosted the San Diego City Amateur, the Junior World, the Farmers Insurance Open, and now, for the second time, it will be the setting for the U.S. Open – playing at 7,652 yards as a par 71, with a few subtle changes.
Amongst the competition are eight (8) past Valero Texas Open Champions: Corey Conners (2019), Charley Hoffman (2016), Zach Johnson (2008 & 2009), Martin Laird (2013), Adam Scott (2010), Brendan Steele (2011) and Boerne resident Jimmy Walker (2015). Additionally, our reigning champion Jordan Spieth (2021) won the U.S. Open in 2015 and is competing in today’s first round.
Upon the completion of Sunday’s final round, who will hoist the trophy this Father’s Day? We wish the entire player field good luck and look forward to watching it over the weekend ahead.

 | Fiesta San Antonio! | |
| |
The annual Fiesta® San Antonio was moved from its traditional April celebration to June 14-27 this year due to the pandemic. Fiesta® San Antonio started in 1891 as a one-parade event to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. That historic commemoration still takes place, but for more than a century, Fiesta® has grown into a celebration of San Antonio’s rich and diverse cultures and today is one of this nation’s premier festivals. Funds raised by official Fiesta® events provide services to San Antonio citizens throughout the year.
Part of the San Antonio culture is to collect, purchase and exchange colorful and decorative medals during Fiesta. Local lore has it, the ubiquitous Fiesta® medal tradition started in 1971, when King Antonio XLIX, Charles Orsinger, punched holes into 200 royal coins, strung them with ribbon, and handed them out at San Antonio Fiesta events.
Some stories suggest this tradition started much earlier, possibly tracing roots back to 1946. The oldest medal dates back to a silver “King’s Medal” with a gold ribbon, worn by King Antonio XI Sterling C. Burke in 1927. Others insist the trinkets were not a true Fiesta® must-have until the mid-2000s. Whatever the true origin, the tradition has become an integral part of the Fiesta festivities.

 | Happy Father’s Day | |
| |
Many are blessed to grow up with a male role model to help raise and guide them. Often times that man is called Daddy, Dad, Step-Dad, Pappa, Grandpa and sometimes Uncle, or Brother. Father’s Day is a chance to celebrate the male role models who are our superheroes without capes. He wants to catch you if you fall, but know when he has to let you learn so he can pick you up instead. He has the answers to most of life’s problems, but when he doesn’t he helps you figure it out. He is someone who will protect you when you need it, and teach you to protect yourself. He listens and cares for the child’s interests and never laughs at mistakes, for they are learning opportunities. He treats you like an equal and respects you as you get older. He is one that provides moral guidance and teaches you about life.
Regardless of the name you go by, we celebrate you for the unconditional love and support you foster to young loved ones. We wish you a Happy Father’s Day!!
