Dr. Seuss said it best in a favorite childhood book, Oh the Places You’ll Go!, “You’re off to great places, today is your day, your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!” As school is starting throughout the month, we want to wish all of the administrators, teachers, students and parents the best of luck. May the new school year kick-start fun educational adventures and inspire young minds to new heights!

Valero Texas Open Distributed Over $11.7M to Charity in June
The Valero Texas Open, along with its Champions fore Charity fundraising campaign and the Valero Benefit for Children, raised a record-breaking $22 million this past April when the event celebrated its 100th anniversary. The cumulative charitable fundraising total is now $209 million since the event’s inception.

Tournament representatives recently hosted two events and distributed charitable contributions to local nonprofits from this year’s net tournament proceeds. Champions fore Charity is an annual charitable initiative organized and supported by the Valero Texas Open, providing over 200 charity organizations throughout the greater San Antonio community and beyond with a fun and unique fundraising platform.

The program’s annual Celebration of Champions was held on Friday, June 24 at Valero’s headquarters. Over 275 representatives of charities, schools and program sponsors from San Antonio, Austin and Corpus Christi attended the luncheon as funds raised through the seven month-long fundraising campaign were distributed to the 158 agencies in attendance. Donors who contributed to the program generated $10.77M. The charities also received several financial incentives including a 7% matching gift provided by the Valero Texas Open.

Champions fore Charity Ambassador, David Chancellor (News 4 San Antonio Anchor) was on hand for the event and helped to announce the program’s record-breaking total of $11.55M distributed to charities from the 2021-2022 fundraising campaign.

The Valero Texas Open also hosted Happy Hour for Heroes on Tuesday, June 28 to acknowledge and celebrate the sponsors who supported and the military focused charitable organizations who benefitted from this year’s Night to Honor Our Heroes presented by Boeing military appreciation gala. The intimate gathering was held at the Fort Sam Houston Golf Course Clubhouse where more than $225,000 in net proceeds from Night to Honor Our Heroes were distributed to eleven charitable recipients.

“While the Valero Texas Open has an extensive military appreciation platform during tournament week,” explained Dave “Mako” Petersen, USAF (Ret) and this year’s Valero Texas Open Military Affairs Committee Chair, “the financial contributions made to military charities will provide resources and assistance to our servicemen and women, and their families, 365 days a year.”

None of these charitable contributions would be possible without continuous support from corporate partners, sponsors, individual donors, fans and the entire San Antonio community.

The Valero Texas Open will begin its next century March 27 – April 2, 2023 at TPC San Antonio.
