Good Luck to Teachers & Students
Dr. Seuss said it best in a favorite childhood book, Oh the Places You’ll Go!, “Today is your day. You’re off to great places! You’re off and away!” As we near school starting later this month, we want to wish all of the administrators, parents, teachers and students the best of luck. May the new school year kick-start fun educational adventures and inspire young minds to new heights.

Valero Junior Texas Open: Future Stars Rose to the Occasion
Valero Junior Texas Open

Valero Junior Texas Open
Garrett Reband (age: 16) of Cleburne, Texas (73-71-72—216; E) and Chaithra Katamneni (age: 18) of Coppell, Texas (77-74-74—225; +9) were crowned Champions of the Boys and Girls Divisions respectively.
The Valero Junior Texas Open took place July 14-16; and for the first time, this long-standing event on the American Junior Golf Association’s (AJGA) schedule was moved to the Greg Norman-designed AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, home of the Valero Texas Open.

The 96 player field had a broad reach, which represented six states and six countries including Australia, China, India, Korea, Mexico and Sweden. The home of the PGA TOUR’s annual Valero Texas Open provided the perfect setting for competitors and their families to enjoy a “PGA TOUR-like” experience.

Following a fun Junior-Am competition on Monday, the talented boys and girls tested their skills over three rounds (Tuesday – Thursday).

Beyond providing a memorable competition experience for these young golfers, the community support helped raise valuable dollars for The First Tee of Greater San Antonio, the AJGA’s ACE Grant Scholarship Program and various other Valero Texas Open supported charities.

In the end, Garrett Reband (age: 16) of Cleburne, Texas (73-71-72—216; E) and Chaithra Katamneni (age: 18) of Coppell, Texas (77-74-74—225; +9) were crowned Champions of the Boys and Girls Divisions respectively.

In addition to winning a miniature replica of the Valero Texas Open trophy, Garrett and Chaithra earned the opportunity to compete in this year’s Junior PGA Championship, which was held at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas from Aug. 4-6.
