Valero Texas Open Earns “Best Of” Award at PGA TOUR Tournament Meetings

PGA TOUR event honored for Best On-Site Staging in 2016

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The Valero Texas Open in San Antonio was honored by the PGA TOUR at the TOUR’s Tournament Meetings on December 7.

The Valero Texas Open earned an award for Best On-Site Staging during the 2016 tournament at TPC San Antonio. The award encompasses the overall staging plan, presentation and branding at the event.

“On behalf of the PGA TOUR, I am pleased to congratulate the Valero Texas Open for the special recognition it has received,” said Andy Pazder, PGA TOUR chief tournaments and competitions officer. “The tournament staff should be extremely proud of its hard work and for being recognized as the best among its peers on the TOUR.”

Taking advantage of its setting, the Valero Texas Open built and decorated major venues to match the event’s authentic, Texas-style surroundings. Smaller structures, such as concession stands and expo spaces, were designed to maintain this specific look and feel. The use of custom materials and attention to detail elevated the theme and presentation across the property. As a result, players, sponsors, fans, and volunteers all received a genuine look at the Lone Star State.

“It is an honor to receive this award on behalf of the of the Valero Texas Open and everyone that helps to make our tournament stand out for its one-of-a-kind personality and style that is truly an extension of San Antonio,” said Larson Segerdahl, Valero Texas Open executive director.

The 2017 Valero Texas Open, won this year by Charley Hoffman, will be held April 17-23 at TPC San Antonio.
