Brendan Steele, winner of the 2011 Valero Texas Open, is enjoying a successful stretch of golf right now. Steele started the season with a victory at the Safeway Open in October and in seven starts has five top-20 finishes including back-to-back sixth place finishes in January. He is currently ranked 4th in the FedExCup standings and is 54th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
When Charley Hoffman won the 2016 Valero Texas Open, his final round 69 was five shots better than his final-round scoring average of 74.7. Up to that point, Hoffman had not broken 70 in the final round of a tournament since the fall of 2015. And guess what? His current final-round scoring average is 69.0.
Since the start of the FedExCup in 2007, only one other player has more weeks at the No. 1 position in the FedExCup standings than 2015 VTO champion Jimmy Walker. Tiger Woods leads this category with 83 weeks at the top, Walker is second at 48 weeks and Ernie Els is third with 22 weeks.
Four of our past champions during the last seven years finished in the top 25 recently at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Martin Laird (2013) led the foursome with his T7 finish. He was followed by Zach Johnson (2008, 2009) at T12, Brendan Steele (2011) at T16 and Charley Hoffman (2016) at T24.
Charley Hoffman
Charley Hoffman finished runner-up in the 2011 Valero Texas Open before slipping on the Champion boots last year.
Who is the only champion of the Valero Texas Open in the past ten years to finish as runner-up before slipping on the boots? Charley Hoffman was tied for second in 2011 and five years later earned the title.

Secure Your Spot: Volunteer
We are looking for people with a passion to give back. Together, our volunteers create a fantastic Valero Texas Open experience for PGA TOUR players, corporate sponsors and spectators alike.

The success of the VTO is due in large part to the volunteers who give generously of their time, talent and energy through 30 dynamic committees. Consider volunteering with Shotlink, assisting with the Evacuation team, being a Hole Marshall, working with Airport Reception, help render aid with the Medical team or one of the other exciting committees that provide critical service to the tournament. There is something for everyone.

During the week, you'll make new friends, get a behind-the-scenes look at a PGA TOUR event and witness many of the world's top golfers as they compete right here in your back yard! You'll also play an important role in the tournament's charitable mission to raise funds and awareness for hundreds of worthy causes throughout San Antonio, and well beyond.

Register today to avoid being put on a wait list!
