Major Champions In The Field: Valero Texas Open officials are pleased to announce the addition of four Major Champions to next week’s field -- Keegan Bradley (2011 PGA Championship), Stewart Cink (2009 Open Championship), Retief Goosen (2001 & 2004 U.S. Open), Geoff Ogilvy (2006 U.S. Open). The tournament now boasts a total of nine Major Champions announced to date.

Notable International Competitors: Several international players have also been added, Byeong Hun “Ben” An (South Korea), Aaron Baddeley (Australia), K.J. Choi (South Korea), Ryo Ishikawa (Japan), Freddie Jacobson (Sweden), Sung Kang (South Korea), Soren Kjeldsen (Denmark), Danny Lee (New Zealand), C.T. Pan (Chinese Taipei), Seamus Power (Ireland), John Senden (Australia), Cameron Smith (Australia), Nick Taylor (Canada), Tyrone Van Aswegen (South Africa), Camilo Villegas (Colombia).

Facts & Figures: With the year’s first major championship completed, here is a list of Valero Texas Open champions who have also won the Masters Tournament and/or the U.S. Open which will be the next major championship played this year. There are a total of ten players for each of the two majors: Masters—Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Jack Burke, Jr., Arnold Palmer, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Watson, Mark O’Meara, Zach Johnson and Adam Scott. U.S. Open—Walter Hagen, Byron Nelson, Lawson Little, Ben Hogan, Gene Littler, Arnold Palmer, Hale Irwin, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson and Corey Pavin.

Players have until Friday, April 14 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time to commit to the Valero Texas Open. They can withdraw from the tournament at any time.

April 15: Dash to the VTO & Children’s Golf Clinic

The Dash to the VTO is this Saturday, April 15. Lace up your sneakers and enjoy a 10K and 5K run/walk around TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course. Children 14 & younger can participate in a 1 mile run/walk.

It’s a chance to get a sneak peek at the tournament layout before the competition begins later that week. The race starts at 9 AM and entry fee includes a race shirt, chipped bib and a ticket to attend the Valero Texas Open! This event will help raise funds and awareness for our Birdies for Charity program.

After the races, families and children are encouraged to stick around for our annual Children’s Golf Clinic presented by The Kolitz Family Foundation from 10 AM – 11:30 AM. This is an exclusive opportunity for children to hit golf balls where the PGA TOUR pros practice, led by The First Tee of Greater San Antonio. Children can also enjoy a golf clinic and fun backyard family games. The first 300 children will receive an Exclusive Swag Bag filled with lots of fun goodies!

Night to Honor Our Heroes presented by Wells Fargo salutes those men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who are serving, honors those who have served, and pays tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The night will be filled with great food, special guests including Master of Ceremonies, Bill Macatee from CBS Sports.

Guests will leave with a heightened sense of patriotism after listening to moving testimony by featured speaker, Staff Sgt. Salvatore A. Giunta. For his extraordinary gallantry, unrivalled courage and selfless leadership in action, Staff Sgt. Giunta was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama, in addition, he is awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart.

Saturday: Valero Texas Open 19th Hole Fiesta

On Saturday, April 22 join us for the Valero Texas Open’s 19th Hole Fiesta, an official FIESTA® event. Even after the last putt drops, bar and concession service in The Backyard will continue well into the evening along with backyard games and live music by the popular 80’s cover band, The Spazmatics. The Valero Texas Open 19th Hole Fiesta is presented by Taco Bell, KFC and Kickstart from Mountain Dew.

Complimentary to all spectators in attendance on Saturday, the 19th Hole Fiesta will begin once play has concluded for the day, at approximately 5 p.m., and will wrap-up around 9:30 p.m. For those who choose to attend just the After Party, a $30 charge at the gate will apply.

College students will receive FREE admission to the tournament after 2 p.m. with a valid college ID and are invited to stick around for the 19th Hole Fiesta.

The new Heroes Pavilion, located on the 17th Green, serves as a “Thank You” to our military and first responders for their daily sacrifices, locally and abroad.
The Valero Texas Open is proud to honor all Active Duty, Guard, Reserve, Veteran, and Retired Military as well as the First Responders of Bexar County.

The Heroes Pavilion located on the 17th Green, serves as a “Thank You” to our military and first responders for their daily sacrifices, locally and abroad. This pavilion provides our Heroes with a VIP experience throughout the tournament week and an opportunity to witness the excitement of the drivable par 4, 17th Hole.

Everyone is invited to make a donation to their favorite charity or school through Birdies for Charity by making a one-time donation or a pledge, like a walk-a-thon, but instead of donating per mile, make a pledge for every birdie made at the Valero Texas Open. The 2016 Valero Texas Open had 1,834 birdies made, so a pledge of $0.01 yielded a donation of $18.34.
